A friend of ours at the Royal Television Society telephoned today to tell us about the coming weekend of screenings of international TV films and documentaries to be held at the Goethe-Institut in London. The screenings will be supported by a discussion on why “there seems to be no room, amongst the plethora of digital channels, for important documentary and drama from the rest of the world” on British TV.
For more details go to: http://www.goethe.de/ins/gb/lon/kue/flm/en2907025.htm
The event is organised by the International Television Conference; CCI students will be welcome (although there is a fee of between three and ten pounds).

Lost in CCI apologises for anyone whose Christmas celebrations were interrupted by the sight of Academic Director Dr Richard Howells on television. Richard was appearing as a popular cultural expert on “James May: My Sisters’ Top Toys”, which was screened on BBC2 no less than three times (including Christmas Day) over the holiday period. Richard spoke about the perceived difference between girls’ and boys’ toys, along with the semiotics of the colour pink. James May, meanwhile, is co-host of the BBC’s popular “Top Gear” programme, along with other series on wine and various documentaries. Richard confesses that he would happily talk about cars and wine too, but was content, for the time being, to stick to toys.
