Inglourious Moments

Starstruck MA CCI students and Focus Features interns Tamara Mikaberidze and Jessica Kwan had the opportunity on 23 July to attend an exclusive after party following the UK premiere of Quentin Tarantino’s new film Inglourious Basterds in Leicester Square.

Tamara writes: “There’s nothing like a good war film to get the blood pumping and Tarantino’s highly anticipated World War II epic proves to be no exception. Brad Pitt stars as the US officer in charge of the Basterds, an elite group of soldiers who infiltrate occupied France in order to put an end to the Third Reich by, quite simply, assassinating Hitler. As if this wasn’t enough, a young cinema owner, a German movie star, and a sinister “Jew Hunter” (played by Christoph Waltz, who deserves an Oscar for his uncanny performance) are thrown into the mix, resulting in an adventure that will take your breath away, drop your jaw, and even have you rolling in the aisles from laughter. It is a classic Tarantino at his finest.

“It was quite a shock to be sharing the red carpet with the likes of Rhianna, Mickey Rourke, Neve Campbell, and the absolutely stunning Diane Kruger. Red carpets and drinks with celebs!? Who says working during the summer is dull?”

Lost in CCI also notes that two 2007-8 MA CCI students, Vanessa Badino and Margaux Dourdin, have jobs at Focus. Margaux stayed on at Focus after completing an internship there, while Vanessa joined after doing her internship at Paramount Pictures UK.

Signs of the Times

Posted by lostincci on July 23, 2009

Yuting Financial TimesWe are fully into the internship season for the MA in CCI, with students all over London and beyond. This also means that CMCI staff have been visiting students at their places of work -and finding out how they, their companies and their bosses have been getting on with each other!

We have students at some very impressive organisations from all over the cultural, media and creative sectors. Here, for example is Liu, Yuting at the Financial Times, where she was visited by Centre Director Dr Richard Howells.

Yuting is working on the China desk, where things really start to hot up once the markets open in Beijing -even though these can be anti-social hours in London. Yuting reports that she is thoroughly enjoying her internship and learning lots about financial journalism in the UK.
