Dr Ruth Adams takes part in Thinking Allowed

Posted by lostincci on April 19, 2013

Dr Ruth Adams recently appeared on the BBC Radio 4 programme Thinking Allowed on Wednesday 17 April.  She was invited on to talk about her recently published paper, ‘The V&A, “The Destruction of the Country House”, and the Creation of English Heritage’.

Ruth discussed the emotional and political impact of a notorious exhibition staged at the V&A in 1974, and how public attitudes to the homes of the aristocracy have changed significantly in the past few decades.  She argues that now, to a very great extent, country houses and English heritage are regarded as synonymous.

After the recording, host Laurie Taylor took time out for a photo opportunity with Ruth.
